The mismanagement of Barcelona’s board and the COVID-19 pandemic have economically affected the Catalan club. The measures they had used earlier have not been enough. That is why Bartomeu’s board wants to negotiate a salary reduction for all first-team players.
The board will open a negotiation debate to carry out this strategy. To achieve this, they have 15 days to negotiate the new conditions and implement them for the 2020/21 season.
The reality is that the Azulgranas are not at their best financial moment. Let’s remember that Barça could not close relatively cheap deals like those of Memphis Depay and Eric García in the summer transfer market due to finances. In addition, on Monday evening the Catalan club reported a loss of 97 million euros last season due to the negative effects of the pandemic.
We will have to wait and see how the board will continue the negotiations, especially with the players. One of the measures they used last season was to cut 30% of first-team player wages, which seems to not have been enough. The board is expected to be more aggressive in the reductions until everything gradually normalizes.
