Italian Grand Prix – at the temple of speed, but the atmosphere won’t be the same

Sunday sees the 91st edition of the Italian Grand Prix, the 71st to count towards the Formula 1 World Championship, the only race along with the British Grand Prix to feature in every season since the series began.

It has been held at the Monza circuit every year with the exception of the 1980 event which was held at the Dino e Enzo Ferrari circuit at Imola, a race won by Nelson Piquet in a Brabham. Over the years, Scuderia Ferrari has won 19 times, started from pole 21 times and secured a total of 69 podium finishes.

Speed, slipstreaming and overtaking. Since the “old” Hockenheim disappeared, Monza is the only high-speed track on the Formula 1 calendar. In the old days, there were no chicanes on the long straights making for some incredibly close racing, with dozens of overtaking moves every … Read the rest

Claire Williams to step down as Williams Racing Deputy Team Principal

Claire Williams, who has been with the family team since 2002, has decided to step down as Williams Racing Deputy Team Principal following the conclusion of the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.

Claire started her Williams journey working in the Communications office before working her way up to Deputy Team Principal in 2013.

She was awarded an OBE in 2016 for her services to Formula One. Her footprint will forever be left in the sport.

Claire Williams stated “It is with a heavy heart that I am stepping away from my role with the team. I had hoped to continue my tenure long into the future and to preserve the Williams family’s legacy into the next generation. However, our need to find inward investment earlier this year due to a number of factors, many of which were outside of our control, resulted in the sale of the team to Read the rest

Charles Leclerc confident Ferrari “understanding problems and building solid foundation for future”

Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc admitted that “it’s not going to be easy” for the Italian side to fight their way back to the front of Formula 1, ahead of the team’s home race – the Italian Grand Prix.

Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto said in the wake of Ferrari’s worst result of 2020 at the Belgian Grand Prix that his team’s recovery could take years. And with Charles Leclerc contracted at Ferrari until the end of 2024, the Monegasque said that he was prepared to show patience, and put his shoulder to the wheel, to help with that recovery.

And asked ahead of Ferrari’s home race at Monza whether he was prepared to wait that long to start winning races again, Leclerc – who was re-signed to the team over the winter until 2024 – replied: “Well, on one hand I don’t really have the choice. But surely … Read the rest

Doran “Doesn’t Know What to Say” After Latest World RX Problems

There is bad luck and then there is Liam Doran‘s 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship campaign so far. Several reliability issues have prevented Doran from even finishing races and on Sunday in Finland, a dramatic tyre failure cost him a place in the semi-finals.

Having gambled to go on slick tyres in Q1, Doran was leading his heat in Q2 until his front right wheel fell off the car on the main straight.

Speaking to Neil Cole just after the race he said: “I don’t know what to say. Obviously I cut the corner but other drivers have been cutting the corner and I didn’t expect the wheel to fall off. I was fighting hard, I knew I had to get back to the front to get the time, there was good conditions, track was evolving and I just had to set the laptimes. It was quite an aggressive Read the rest
