From Pressure To Perfection: Inside The Mind Of Borna Coric

Borna Coric returns to the St. Petersburg Open with fond memories. The Croatian has made the trip to the historic Russian city for the third time in four years and enjoyed the best result of his 2019 season at this event.

Last season, Coric entered the tournament searching for form after a disappointing run of results in North America. But the 6’2” right-hander battled his way into form, playing three consecutive deciding sets en route to his first final in almost a year (l. to Medvedev). Returning as the seventh seed in 2020, Coric is excited to return to one of his favourite stops on the ATP Tour.

“It was very, very nice last year. I enjoyed it… Last year was the best [I have played here], by far,” said Coric. “It is not so much fun to remember the final, but apart from that it was super nice.

All smiles: New Man United signing pictured in training kit

Manchester United fans are plenty excited to see their new signing Facundo Pellistri in action and it seems he’s equally thrilled to be at the club.

The young winger arrived from Peñarol on deadline day as a relative unknown but supporters are looking forward to his debut nonetheless.

Pellistri comes with a host of recommendations and praise, appearing to fit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer policy perfectly.

There are question marks over whether he’s ready for the first-team right away but supporters are willing to give him a chance to shine.

Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata, Daniel James and Jesse Lingard have all played in the right-wing spot over various periods but it certainly is a position Pellistri can make his own.

Wary Everton boss Ancelotti makes Liverpool declaration ahead of Merseyside Derby

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti isn’t reading too much into Liverpool’s 7-2 loss at the hands of Aston Villa, and is wary ahead of the Merseyside Derby.

The Reds were (there is no other way to put it) destroyed at Villa park before the international break, and the players have been left to lick their wounds.

A handful of Liverpool stars have been away on international duty over the last fortnight, but will be headed back to Melwood before the weekend.

The Merseyside Derby is up next for the Reds and the Blues – and Ancelotti is refusing to get cocky ahead of the champions’ trip over Stanley Park.

We are confident,” the Italian told Evertonfc.com. “It doesn’t matter what happened last week, they are still a fantastic team with a fantastic manager. It will be a difficult game but we have confidence.

Djokovic: ‘He Played A Perfect Match’

Novak Djokovic entered the Roland Garros final against Rafael Nadal with a wealth of experience and form, having beaten the Spaniard in 14 of their most recent 18 ATP Head2Head matches. But despite all his past success against the five-time year-end World No. 1 and his 37-1 record this year heading into the final, he could not match Nadal’s level on Court Phillipe-Chatrier.

“He’s phenomenal,” said Djokovic. “He played a perfect match, especially in the first two sets. The third set I managed to come back. I found my groove on the court. Then [there were a] couple of close games. [I] had my chances, didn’t use them. He closed out the match. That’s it. He was the far better player on the court today and absolutely deserved to win.”

Nadal charged through the opening two sets with the loss of just two games and held off a late comeback … Read the rest

Exciting: Young Man United star garners praise from South American legends

Manchester United fans may not have known who Facundo Pellistri was before he joined the club but it appears many Uruguayans do.

The young winger joined from Peñarol during the summer transfer window, sealing his move dramatically on deadline day.

United supporters may have been hoping to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho for the right-wing position but instead Ole Gunnar Solskjaer invested in two young wingers.

Amad Diallo was the other signing but he arrives in January, giving Pellistri a chance to make a mark quickly before that happens.

Edinson Cavani and former Red Devil Diego Forlan have both had plenty to say about the 18-year-old which should excite fans.

Liverpool & Man Utd devise project which will shift power to the elite & abolish the EFL Cup

Liverpool and Manchester United have been working together behind the scenes on potentially the biggest shake-up in English football since the foundation of the Premier League.

As revealed by the Telegraph, ‘Project Big Picture‘ will effectively tilt power in favour of the elite, stripping the bottom 14 clubs in the top division of having a vote in decision-making processes.

One glaring issue with this alone is that long-standing top-flight clubs such as our rivals Everton, who have spent a record 117 seasons playing at the pinnacle of English football, will no longer have a say.

Other changes listed in the report include a reduction of the number of teams in the Premier League from 20 to 18 – like the German Bundesliga – and abolishing the EFL Cup and Community Shield.

An interesting idea is one of the promotion system, which could involve both clubs up for … Read the rest

Preview: Djokovic, Nadal Chase Grand Slam History At Roland Garros

When Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal step onto Court Philippe-Chatrier on Sunday, they will be contesting one of the most important matches in their storied ATP Head2Head rivalry.

The top two players in the FedEx ATP Rankings have battled for the biggest titles on the grandest stages in the sport since their first meeting at this event in 2006, but their eighth clash on the Parisian terre battue (Nadal leads 6-1) and their 56th ATP Head2Head encounter (Djokovic leads 29-26) has added importance. Both men are chasing Grand Slam history.

Here’s how to watch from 3pm CEST/9am EDT

On one side of the net, Djokovic is aiming to become the first man in the Open Era to win all four Grand Slam titles on multiple occasions. A win would also see him move just one major title away from Nadal and two behind record holder and 20-time Grand Slam … Read the rest

United have chance to sign top target who's available for just £40m

RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano will reportedly be available for relatively cheap, giving Manchester United hope of sealing a transfer.

The French talent would’ve been a fantastic addition to the squad this summer and it’s believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co considered making the move.

However, Upamecano ended up staying put and United didn’t end up signing a centre-back at all, instead bringing in two right wingers, a left-back, a central midfielder and a striker.

While that was disappointing to many supporters, it does leave room for Solskjaer to go back in for his key target.

However, signing the young defender won’t be easy as there many lining up to secure his valuable signature.

According to the Mirror, Upamecano has a new deal that means he can’t move anywhere until next summer but his release clause has dropped from £52m to £40m, though he will only join a Champions League … Read the rest
