Rytkönen’s Makes Memorable World RX Debut

2019 Finnish Rallycross Championship (Rallicross SM) Supercar champion Juha Rytkönen made his FIA World Rallycross Championship debut at his home track -Kouvola – last weekend, driving the third Hyundai i20 under the GRX Set banner.

He became the 2018 Autokrossi class champion in his first season before taking the opportunity to do what was originally a one-off Supercar outting at Kouvola the same year as when the RallyX Nordic visited the venue before later choosing to stay in the class and has dominated ever since.

Rytkönen shocked everyone by his performance in Saturday’s round three of the 2020 World RX series and stayed within the top five times in all of the qualifying sessions.

He won his semi-final on the Saturday and started alongside Johan Kristoffersson on the front row of the final where he went on to take second in his first appearance in the World RX series.

Sunday round-up after nobody sees friendly defeat to Villa

Morning all. A very quick Sunday round-up for you.

We played a behind closed doors friendly with Aston Villa yesterday and lost 3-2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored both of our goals, one from the penalty spot. Douglas Luiz (a player I think I remember us being linked to in the last few months) got one for the visitors, and Jacob Ramsey, a 19 year old midfielder, scored twice for Villa. Beyond that, we know very little, but there were some things we can definitely look at this morning.

Dani Ceballos played. It had been thought that because he was coming from Spain, a country not on the travel corridor exemption lane highway thingy, he’d have to quarantine for 14 days. Turns out because he’s been part of an ‘Elite Sports Organisation’ (Real Madrid), this doesn’t apply to him. This is also why players who go away on international duty can come … Read the rest

Thiem Ready For ‘Great Encounter’ Against Auger-Aliassime

Two of the biggest talents on the ATP Tour — Dominic Thiem and Felix Auger-Aliassime — will meet for the first time on Monday, with a place in the US Open quarter-finals on the line.

Second seed Thiem will continue his bid for a maiden Grand Slam trophy, just two days after eliminating 2014 champion Marin Cilic to earn the final spot in the Round of 16. The World No. 3 has played well through the opening three rounds in New York, landing 103 winners to record his first wins since the resumption of the ATP Tour.

The World No. 3 entered the second Grand Slam championship of the year short of match practice, following a straight-sets loss to Filip Krajinovic in his opening match at the Western & Southern Open. But the 27-year-old has played at a high level at the US Open and will aim to use his … Read the rest

Dangerous: Mapping out the damage Reguilon could do for United

Manchester United fans have been excited by the prospect of signing Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon and it seems there’s plenty of reasons why.

The Spanish defender’s attacking ability in particular is what supporters want to see more of at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw is better known for his defensive capabilities than his attacking which was even more evidenced by his occasional performances as a left centre-back for United.

Reguilon would offer something different for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and it’s something fans want to see more of from their players.

One of the most important aspects of attacking play from the flanks is a player’s ability to cross, which is brilliantly mapped out below by Twitter account UtdArena.

It’s clear to see the variety in … Read the rest

Carragher predicts huge Liverpool transfer: ‘I think the deal will happen’

Former Liverpool centre-back turned pundit Jamie Carragher thinks that before the transfer window closes, Thiago will have arrived on Merseyside.

The Spaniard has been incessantly linked all summer, but recently spoke out against the rumours and suggested he could stay at Bayern Munich after all.

Carra though thinks it will still happen, and that the delay in the deal is primarily because we are waiting to secure the 29-year-old midfield genius for as much of a bargain as possible.

“I just hope they can get the Thiago deal over the line. If he does come in, I think it will be towards the end of the transfer window and Liverpool trying to get him as cheap as possible […] I think the deal will happen,” he wrote in the Telegraph.

For us, the chance of Thiago signing for Liverpool relies entirely on the future of Gini Wijnaldum.

Photo: Defender drops Man United transfer hint as he removes Real Madrid and follows Old Trafford stars on his social media

Although Man United look pretty solid at left back with Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw, there was still a feeling that they could do with an upgrade in that position, which would also allow Williams to go out on loan.

The Metro reported that Real Madrid full back Sergio Reguilon had been offered to United, and some of his recent social media activity does hint that something might be happening.

It depends how much importance you put in these things, but it’s been noted that he’s started following Man United players on Instagram while he’s also removed Real Madrid from the bio:

It might be making something out of nothing, … Read the rest

Juventus linked with Edinson Cavani

Juventus have been linked with a move for free agent Edinson Cavani as talks for Luis Suarez and Edin Dzeko have reportedly cooled.

The Old Lady are working on freeing Gonzalo Higuain this summer, leaving the strikers position vacant, with Suarez and Dzeko reportedly the  two choices to replace him.

Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca di Marzio reports that the move for Dzeko is essentially ‘blocked’ for now, making him an unlikely option.

Likewise, the move for Suarez is complicated for a host of reasons, not least that he doesn’t have an EU passport, has yet to free himself from Barcelona and could yet remain with the club, now that Lionel Messi has declared his intention to stay

Di Marzio reports that the Bianconeri could now turn their attention to Cavani, who is a free agent, having run down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite Juve’s supposed interest, reports from ESPN … Read the rest

From Valverde to Quique Setién: An upgrade or a lateral move?

As Barcelona’s two managers for the 2019/20 season, Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setién, failed to revert the downward trend of the team, we make use of multiple statistics to analyse whose team performed better.

Coming on the back of a disastrous season all around, in every single competition played, this article will try to take a somewhat in-depth look at the underlying statistical ebbs and flows that defined 2019/20 for FC Barcelona.

One of the biggest defining features of the season was, perhaps, the mid-season sacking of the incumbent manager Ernesto Valverde and appointment of a new coach in Quique Setién. As such, it makes a lot of sense to discuss the intricacies of the season by putting the stats of the team under each manager side-by-side.

The sub-topics chosen to discuss here have been motivated the recent series of interactive league reviews released by Statsperform – previously Opta. … Read the rest

Timmy Hansen: “Kouvola Was Most Difficult World RX Event Ever”

Timmy Hansen reached the final on Sunday at the World RX of Finland after getting his season back on track with a podium 24 hours earlier, although it was a day of mixed fortunes for the defending champion who started with a second place in Q1 before drama in Q2.

Hansen made a mistake coming off the final corner which allowed Andreas Bakkerud to look down the inside at turn one. They made contact with Hansen coming off worst, and was forced to save a half spin.

No penalty was given to Bakkerud but post-race the two drivers were side by side on the way back to the paddock. Both lined up in the same race for Q3 but it was a cleaner affair as Hansen got a front row start for the semi-finals.

Both Timmy and brother Kevin Hansen were in the same race but Timmy emerging in front … Read the rest
