‘I Should Have Won’ on Formula 1’s Last Visit to the Nürburgring – Romain Grosjean

Formula 1 returns to the Nürburgring for the first time since 2013 this weekend, and for Romain Grosjean, he feels he should have become a Grand Prix winner at the circuit that year.

But for a safety car driver, the current Haas F1 Team racer, then driving for the Lotus F1 Team, was on course for his maiden Formula 1 race victory, but he ultimately finished third behind Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel and his Lotus team-mate Kimi Räikkönen.

Grosjean admits he has not had the chance to re-learn the track on the simulator ahead of the Eifel Grand Prix, so he will be using his memory to reacclimatise to the Nürburgring, something he will have to do from second practice as Callum Ilott will drive in the first session in his place.

“To be fair, 2013 was a very long time ago, so I’m Read the rest

Nannini quickest on day one of post-season F3 test

Italian Matteo Nannini finished the first day of the post-season FIA Formula 3 Championship test at Catalunya as the fastest driver as he lit up the timing screens to lead the morning session by over two tenths.

The seventeen year old drove for Jenzer during the 2020 season and surprised many with some standout performances, the best of which saw him claim his first and, to this day, only podium in F3 at the same circuit.

It perhaps wasn’t much of a shock to see Nannini setting fast lap times then after his previous success at this circuit despite switching to the Campos team for day one of the test. He will drive for ART tomorrow.

F3 veteran Jake Hughes was second fastest for HWA Racelab as he says his final goodbyes to Formula 3 racing after announcing that he will move on to pastures new from 2021.

‘Ferrari can still fight for third place in the championship’ – report

Scuderia Ferrari does not have a good season. The team is driving around in midfield and the team has not had a chance to win this season. The weekend in Russia went a little better after improved balance and new upgrades. Also in Eifel updates are expected on the SF1000.

Step forward in Russia
Ferrari was finally able to fight again for a number of good points in Russia, in which Charles Leclerc secured a sixth position for the team. Sebastian Vettel helped by stopping the Renaults of Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon before making a pit stop.

“Both Leclerc and Team Principal Mattia Binotto downplayed the impact of the new parts in Sochi, saying that result was more down to an improved car balance”, said F1 journalist Chris Medland on the official Formula 1 site.

Denny Hamlin escapes Alabama with crazy, controversial YellaWood 500 victory

One can always count on Talladega Superspeedway to bring drama and chaos, even moreso when it’s hosting a NASCAR Cup Series playoff race. Sunday’s YellaWood 500 produced wrecks galore, including two red flags and multiple overtimes, but in the end, Denny Hamlin was able to survive the turmoil in a dramatic but also controversial win.

Hamlin started on the pole ahead of last week’s winner Kurt Busch, while Brendan Gaughan, running his final NASCAR race, started last. Brennan Poole and Timmy Hill failed inspection multiple times and were sent to the rear, as was Cody Ware for replacing J.J. Yeley; it was the reigning Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 Am champion’s first NASCAR start of 2020.

Entering the race, Kyle Busch (nine points back), Clint Bowyer (–20), Aric Almirola (–27), and Austin Dillon (–32) were below the cut-off line.

Ferrari junior Arthur Leclerc completes FREC triple win at Mugello

Ferrari junior Arthur Leclerc completed a triple win at Mugello in Formula Regional European Championship to solidify his points lead. The Prema driver was immediately in the defence from pole against team-mate and fellow Ferrari junior Gianluca Petecof, and they almost rubbed wheels on the run to the first corner.

This allowed Oliver Rasmussen, in the third of Prema’s cars, to take the outside line. As Petecof just took the lead, Rasmussen ran alongside Leclerc through the first two corners going uphill and finally claimed second place as they exited the next corner.

Rasmussen tried the same on Petecof on lap two, but ran out of room on the outside of the first corner and bounced onto the grass. He returned to track in third, and Leclerc made the most of the error to use the clean track ahead to close back in on Petecof.
