Man United edge closer to crucial sale after Van de Beek purchase

Manchester United fans can expect a departure soon according to reports as it has surfaced Chris Smalling wants to leave to return to Roma.

The experienced Englishman spent a brilliant season out on loan with the Italian giants and wants to seal a permanent move this time around.

Smalling was a scapegoat for much of his career at United, often blamed for their horrendous form, particularly in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opting to sign Harry Maguire last summer, it was clear the former Fulham man was not going to be a regular starter.

No one expected him to perform so well at Roma but now Smalling hopes the two clubs can reach an agreement and it seems that may now finally happen.

Arsenal midfielder closes in on two year loan switch to Serie A as Dani Ceballos return is almost done

We’re seeing a common theme where a lot of teams are having to get rid of one player in order to bring someone else in, although Arsenal fans will feel they’re still going to be one short compared to last season.

Lucas Torreira was highly rated when he came to the club, he was expected to bring some class to the midfield with a fearsome long shot, while also adding a healthy dose of aggression that short Uruguayan midfielders are famous for.

It’s not worked out for him and it makes sense to return to Serie A where he shone before, and it sounds like a two year loan deal with Fiorentina is edging closer:

The fans will hope that means a new face will … Read the rest

Analysis: Gabriel Magalhaes and what he’ll bring to the Arsenal defence

Arsenal never do things the easy way. After their worst domestic finish in 25 years, three different managers in charge and another season without Champions League football, the damage could have been irreparable. To say their immediate future hinged on one game would not be an understatement, but thankfully Mikel Arteta masterminded an unlikely FA Cup win to buy the club some time – literally.

That trophy high quickly turned into transfer talk and away from Thomas Partey, a deal for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes was completed amid competition from Napoli and others. But who is the Brazilian, what will he bring to Arsenal and why is he costing the best part of €30 million?

Having started his career with then Brasileirão side Avaí, Lille saw fit to spend €3 million on Gabriel in 2017 despite making just 21 senior appearances. The defender later enjoyed two loan spells with ESTAC … Read the rest

Upamecano responds to rumours of Man United interest

RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano has opened up in regards to rumours that have been linking him with a move away.

Manchester United are said to be interested in signing the young Frenchman having completed the transfer of Ajax’s Donny van de Beek.

Upamecano is one of the football world’s most highly sought after prospects, particularly in the centre-back position.

Many clubs would love to have the pacy defender on board and yet he hasn’t transferred anywhere so far.

United are understood to be stepping up their efforts to sign him and fans are in disbelief over the potential deal.

According to Goal, Upamecano said: “I have extended my contract with Leipzig. I am targeted by several clubs, I speak with clubs, but I have time. We will see what happens in the future.”

The interesting thing to consider in his quote is how he hasn’t ruled out a … Read the rest

Man Utd potentially ruled out of race for Thiago because of wage demands

Manchester United may have been forced out of the race for Thiago Alcantara just as quickly as they were brought into the picture.

Earlier last week Norwegian journalist Fredrik Filtvedt tweeted an update which linked the Red Devils with a move for the Liverpool target.

The reporter has now updated his followers by claiming Thiago’s wage demands were too high for United, suggesting they could be out of the equation.

See below:

Translation: ‘The latest news is that there has been dialogue between United and Thiago, but the Spaniard’s wage demands could be too high.’

Now, we’re not going to pretend we know anything about Filtvedt or his credibility, but our friend Jan Aage Fjortoft seemingly knows a bit about him.… Read the rest

Spanish report explains how Barcelona’s president could go to prison over the Lionel Messi situation

Sometimes you just see a report that has to be completely and utterly made up, but it looks like this one could “technically” be true.

There’s no doubt that allowing the greatest footballer of all time to leave on a free transfer will lead to fans saying things like “that should be a criminal offence”, but it actually might be in a round about kind of way.

Ultimately it all comes down to the financial damage that the club will suffer, and Spanish outlet Cuatro have explained how Josep Maria Bartomeu could face a prison sentence over the entire situation.

It looks like this could depend on the Argentine star leaving for free next summer, as that will result in Barcelona suffering a huge financial loss in terms of losing all the marketing income that comes from Messi, while receiving no fee will leave them in a deficit as they … Read the rest

Juventus still between Dzeko and Suarez

Juventus are still linked with both Edin Dzeko and Luis Suarez but reports suggest the Bianconeri are none the closer to having a deal with either.

The striker dilemma continues in Turin, with reports from different parts of the Italian media suggesting that Juve are still linked with both players.

Much seems to hinge on Gonzalo Higuain’s future at the club, but by all indications, he is set to terminate his contract this week and then choose a destination of his own choosing, rather than Juve recoup any value from a potential sale.

Juventus transfer journalist Luca Momoli reports that Pipita currently has an offer from David Beckham’s Inter Miami which he is giving serious consideration to.
