Liberty takes back control in Brazil

By Garry Sloan | The news broke last week amid controversy that Formula 1 will move from Interlagos in Sao Paulo to a new purpose-built track on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. The construction of the new circuit would require the deforestation of the Camboatoa region with the felling of 200,000 trees, something the developers claim will be negated by the planting of 700,000 new trees. In Brazil, there is mounting public opposition to the proposal with a petition entitled “For the preservation of the Camboatoa Forest! Let the race track be somewhere else” already receiving over 28 million signatures. So why has Liberty Media chosen to leave behind a top 5 racetrack steeped in Formula 1 history and much loved by the fans and move to a new track in Rio?

We must wind the clock back to 2016, when Liberty entered the bidding process to purchase Formula … Read the rest

Partey arrives – Nketiah breaks records

Thomas Partey arrived at Arsenal yesterday after playing a couple of international friendlies with Ghana. As much as I’m indifferent to what’s going on with the Interlull games, I was keeping half an eye on this – not so much about what he did in the games, but just to make sure he came through them without any injury.

As you might expect, he has done a bit of media, and said all the right things, like:

– How Mikel Arteta played a key role in his arrival.

– The Arsenal players from the past that he grew up watching.

– And how he’s an octopus. Sort of.

On the manager, he said:

Arteta was very important. Him and Edu told me about their plans and it was so exciting, so I had to accept it. I think he watched me at Atletico and wants me to bring the same

After Schumacher, who is the best Ferrari driver?

Without a doubt, both Scuderia Ferrari and
casual Formula One (F1) fans would agree that Michael Schumacher is the
greatest Ferrari driver of all time. With Schumacher, Ferrari dominated F1
becoming synonymous with race car driving. Although not as successful outside
Schumacher, Ferrari was still on top of F1 thanks to their many talented
drivers. But who deserves to carry Ferrari’s banner outside Schumacher?

The five best Ferrari drivers after Schumacher

Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari in 1929
and they first entered F1 in the 1950 Monaco Grand Prix. The team most recently
accomplished its 1,000th race milestone.

In 70 years, Ferrari has accumulated 16
Constructors’ Championships with 15 Drivers’ Championships, both F1 records.
They  also have over 230 victories, over
750 podiums, and over 250 fastest laps – all records as well.

A big part of this was because of Schumacher
in the early 2000’s. But even if you … Read the rest

Klaasen and Marach saved 11 of the 14 break points they faced, including all eight in the second set, to triumph after one hour and 23 minutes. The South African-Austrian duo was 1-5 after the ATP Tour’s restart before their victory in Cologne. Ironically, their one previous win since August came against Alexander Zverev (w/Tim Puetz) at the Western & Southern Open.

Klaasen and Marach will next play Spaniards Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Fernando Verdasco or Germans Daniel Masur and Rudolf Molleker.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Diogo Dalot was a wanted man this summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Manchester United’s plans for Diogo Dalot in light of his loan move to AC Milan.

The Portuguese defender sealed a season long loan to the Italian giants after rumours claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not see a future for him at the club.

Dalot hasn’t featured an awful lot under the legendary Norwegian but that largely has had to do with his host of injuries.

One of Solskjaer’s first signings was a right-back in the shape of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and that instantly set question marks over the former Porto man’s future.

Romano though has cleared the air and revealed the former Molde man’s plans, insisting Dalot still has a future at Old Trafford.

‘He has magical powers…’ Firmino still absolutely loves former Liverpool team-mate

Roberto Firmino has lauded Coutinho, after two excellent games alongside his former Anfield team-mate for Brazil.

Both played and starred in wins over Bolivia and Peru, and will now be returning to Liverpool and Barcelona respectively.

Coutinho is especially enjoying a renaissance this term, finally given a proper role in the Barca side under Ronald Koeman.

“He’s phenomenal,” Bobby said, cited in Goal.

“You simply can’t say that he’s not a magician. He has magical powers. He produces plays that don’t exist, that you couldn’t make up.

“You always have to watch replays of his plays to understand what he’s done. He’s an unbelievable player. It was a pleasure to play with him at Liverpool, and it’s a pleasure to play with him for the Selecao.

“I’m a huge fan of his. He’s one of the very best players in the world.”

During the summer, Coutinho would have jumped … Read the rest
